A few years ago, my husband and I and a few friends had the opportunity to go to Gen Con in Indiana. Gen Con is a huge gaming convention (and I SO want to go again), with many different activities and workshops going on at all times. At one point, a few of us wandered into a giant game of Wits and Wagers (the grown up version) and had a blast. Our team lost, but we all received coupons for the vendor booth. While there, we fell in love with another North Star game- Say Anything. We purchased this one with the coupon and it has been a favorite ever since.
The paragraph above is part of my Wits & Wagers Family review from last December. While we are huge fans of both versions of Wits & Wagers, our favorite of the North Star Games has remained Say Anything. This year, we've had the opportunity to check out the family version of the game and may I say, it is as well loved as the original!
Say Anything is an awesome "get to know you" type game and has been a hit as a family game and at events, parties, the teen class at church, and the like. Each person receives a dry erase card, a marker, and two tokens. The youngest player goes first and is the "Judge". This person draws a card, chooses a question from the card, and reads it aloud. Everyone else writes their answer on the dry erase card and places it face up on the table. Once everyone's answered, the Judge will secretly choose his favorite answer using the Select-O-Matic 6000 (a round cardboard piece with an arrow pointing to the color of the winning card) and then it's time for everyone else to guess which answer he chose. The two tokens can be placed on the same answer or split between two. The Judge's choice is revealed and scoring begins. Players receive a point for guessing the right answer chosen and a point for writing the chosen answer. The Judge receives points for each token that has been placed on the chosen answer (so it's best to know your Judge well!). At the end of the round, you erase the answers and the next player becomes the Judge.
The game play is simple and the fun is in the crazy responses and the choices made as the Judge. Say Anything Family cards contain questions such as; "In My Opinion...What am I most likely to become famous for? What's the best movie of the last 10 years? What clothing item would be the most uncomfortable for cats to wear? Which famous historical figure would make the worst babysitter? If my life were a movie, what would it be called? What would be the worst possible pizza topping?". You get the idea. With such open ended and sometimes silly questions, this game can be played over and over again without ever being the same. The original version has stood the test of time with us, I'm sure the Family edition will be the same. It's a game kids, teens, and adults enjoy and I've not played once without a lot of laughter!
