Last Tuesday I shared my reasons for loving board games as educational tools that are just plain fun! Five favorites were listed, with the promise of the second five to come this Tuesday. So here we are with Favorite Family Board Games Part Two. Be sure to check out Part One if you missed it!
In no particular order...
This is a new one for me but a very old game. My teenage boys played it a friends house and requested it for Christmas. All the kids enjoy this one but I haven't yet played. Apparently it is a strategy game involving stones and a board. The idea is to surround your opponent's stones and capture territories. My 15 year old says it is easier to learn than Chess but more strategic. The rules are simple but the game play is complex.
My kids are providing suggestions for Part Two of this list and I am ashamed to say that I have not yet played this one with them either! This game was created by friends of ours and my kids love it. It's a cooperative game where players work together to complete missions before their homeworld is destroyed. If you or your kids are sci-fi fans, this may be a perfect fit for your family.
We purchased this game at Gen Con a few years ago and play it frequently. This is a fun game with the family and a great game for parties or anywhere you need a good icebreaker. This game consists of cards with crazy questions like "What would be the worst thing to have on a desk?" and dry erase cards and markers. One person asks a question and everyone else writes an answer they think the questioner will choose. Things get crazy quick and you learn a lot about those you are playing with, all while enjoying a lot of laughter.
Another strategy game (we're extra fond of those) that consists of laying tiles and building cities and roads. These types of games never sound as exciting as they actually are but the strategy and thinking skills involved keep you on your toes and prohibit boredom. This is a game both kids and adults can enjoy. I'm not overly fond of "kid games". I love games designed for thinking people, no matter their age. This is one.
We'll end with a classic. Scrabble has been a favorite family game for generations and it is definitely one of ours. This game combines strategy, thinking skills, spelling, and vocabulary. The combinations are always different, giving a fresh feel to the game every time we play. Need a game day for school? Scrabble is always a winner!
I love games and am always on the lookout for new ones to try, so please share your favorites in the comment section. If you're inspired to incorporate a game day into your homeschooling, let me know how it went and which games you tried. I love hearing from you!

3 People Had Something to Say:
interesting list - I haven't played many of these! THANKS
I am a scrabble nut. I am forever on a quest to find someone to play scrabble with. I forgot to quiz my hubby before the ring. He doesn't like it, but I'm o.k. now. Say anything sounds like a great game.
I wanted to share some of my generation's music with the kids, and I knew that they had lots of their own, so I looked for board games that let you sing. Spontuneous turned out to be really great. We have a lot of fun with it!
