Blog Posts That Never Were

Good news: I was not abducted by aliens.  At least, I think that's good news.  Especially if they were the lizard V kind of aliens that only want to suck the life out of my highly desired DNA. Yeah, I'm thinking it's good news. At least for me.

Bad news: I have been MIA for so long because we were hit with round two of Super Sickness 2011.  The days consisted of misery and gloom and wondering if we would ever be well again.  We're climbing out of it now, still in the zombie stage but that's okay. Maybe the zombiepocalypse will hit and we'll fit right in.  Or we'll shed the zombie and return to the land of the living.  One of the two is bound to happen soon.

My computer was too much work to get to while sick but my phone and iTouch were never far from reach. Due to this connection with the world, I actually had blog post ideas but I did not have the energy to write them.  So here is a list of blog posts that never were...

1. The whole Rob Bell controversy annoyed me, I must admit.  The guy may be whacked (although I have enjoyed his work in the past).  He may be theologically incorrect.  But can we please wait for the book to come out before we slam the author for what may or may not be in the book?  And once it comes out, can we review the content and not attack the man?  I am a huge fan of snark and sarcasm when used in humor but there's really no place for it when used to attack other people.  "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” ~John 13:35  "If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other." ~Galatians 5:15  Planks, people, planks.

2. My 13 year old reluctant reader read The Hunger Games in one day.  He's now halfway through Catching Fire.  I LOVED this series and bought the set in hardcover, hoping this would happen.  Seeing him catch the reading bug is so exciting and I'm grateful to authors such as Suzanne Collins for writing stories that capture even the most reluctant of readers.

3. My name is Lori and I'm an American Idol fan.  Yep, I've been watching since season one with Kelly Clarkson and I thought I'd be done with the exit of Simon but then Nigel Lythgoe took over as producer and I love him in So You Think You Can Dance, so I decided to give it a try and was shocked to discover that I like it even more!  I love the new judges and am enjoying discovering new singers and Casey Abrams reminds me of a young Joss Whedon.  And what's not to love about that?

4. I am in year 15 of homeschooling and experiencing major burn out.  Serious, I-am-just-tired-of-homeschooling-but-I'm-not-planning-to-give-it-up-so-I-better-figure-out-how-to-give-myself-a-kick-in-the-pants burnout. So I decided maybe I need to read The Well Trained Mind.  It's a popular homeschool book that I have never read.  I picked up my friend's copy and started reading through it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.  Remember, I am the relaxed homeschooler who loves the idea of unschooling but is a curriculum junkie.  I don't see how one would ever work through those schedules with more than one child or why one would want to in the first place.  I'm not about to start scheduling school from 7 am through 9 pm.  And my children breathe a sigh of relief.  It may be a help to others, but it's not the book for me.

5.  This last one probably will become a post at some point. I've been thinking about starting a meme and wondering if I'm crazy.  Wait, I know I'm crazy.  But that has nothing to do with this idea.  I guess I'm just wondering if it would fly.  I've been thinking a lot about how our culture does not express love very easily or very well.  We attend funerals and talk about how wonderful the person was or how much they meant to us, but did they ever know that when they were alive?  I think of relationships past where I never really expressed how much I cared about someone and now it is too late, whether through death or simply the loss of that relationship.  I'm playing with the idea of a Don't Wait for the Funeral kind of meme where bloggers would be encouraged to share their appreciation for someone each week.  What do you think?  Anyone interested?

And there you have it, the posts that never were but some someday may be, who knows.

Unless those aliens actually show up.

Lori: Please do not read that famous book. I read it twice and am I am still trying to repress the thoughts.

About the meme, that's almost as much commitment as the Well Trained Mind. Woah girl, that's some serious overachieving, but I won't be hating on you for it.
