NaNo has Ended, December has Arrived, Misfits have been Chosen.

Well, we made it to December 1st with most of our insanity intact.  Oh wait...that's not how that phrase goes, is it?  Oh well, my way is more realistic.

National Novel Writing Month is officially over and, as much as I love it, I am not sad to see it go.  This year was the toughest yet, I am not sure why, but I managed to pull it out and finished with 50,120 words.  I began one story, stopped and started another, and then returned to the original, but no matter the mess I have to edit- the goal was met, the challenge mastered, the enthusiasm reigns.

Our school for November was focused on our writing for NaNoWriMo.  Four out of five of the kids met their challenges.  My 15 year old was trying for the full 50,000 and didn't even come close.  My 13 year old managed his goal with a total of 8,043.  My 12 year old came in at 6,011 words and my 10 and 8 year olds wrote above and beyond their goals and finished with 9,888 words and 3,169 words, respectively. We've put the stories aside for now, but most of the kids are excited to begin editing when the new year arrives and see their work in print (NaNo winners receive a free print copy of their edited story!).

In other news, The Homeschool Misfit Awards are complete and I have just finished tallying the votes!  It may take me a day or two to rework all the buttons and prepare the final post, announcing the winners, so I thank you for your patience.  The Misfit Awards are a ton of fun, and I'd love to make them an annual thing, but next year they will probably be held in October.  November was much too full for me to promote them the way that I would have liked.  Thanks to all of YOU who made this the success that it was for its first year!

Keep checking back for the big announcement!

Congratulations on making the goal! None of my boys did, even after I downgraded them on the total number of words. Maybe I was too ambitious to do NaNoWriMo myself AND expect the kids to work more independently on it. Live and learn...

I'm looking forward to seeing the results and can understand the move for next year.

Laura- This is my fourth or fifth year but my kids tried joining for the first time last year and only one made her goal. This year, we worked through the free worksheets during October and they said it made a HUGE difference in their success this year (and the one who did not reach his goal did not do the worksheets). I wonder if we need a year of trying before we have a year of completing? Maybe next year will be the year! :-)

I am hoping to have the results up soon. Tomorrow is my daughter's 12th birthday and my 21st anniversary, so it may not happen then! As soon as I can though!

Congratulations! I went through three different stories. And I am also glad it is over!

Congratulations on your NaNo success! I didn't make my NaNo goal, but my daughter did after I readjust the goal. She would have made her original goal had i been able to type everytime she wanted me too. I was wondering though how long the kids get to edit? Couldn't find that. I wonder if I was looking for it in the wrong place.
