The 6th Annual Homeschool Blog Awards are open for nominations over at The Homeschool Post. This is the second year I've heard the buzz, as bloggers secretly (or not so secretly) hope to be nominated. More blog traffic is appealing. Knowing someone actually likes your blog is encouraging. And who doesn't like awards? But as a few of us FM's were chatting about the process, we realized that we didn't really fit well into any of the categories (with the possible exception of Nitty-Gritty) and began tossing around our own silly ideas for awards we could actually win. And so is born The Homeschool Misfit Awards!
These awards are not meant to take away from The Homeschool Blog Awards in any way (Did I not just admit we're all wannabes?) but are merely designed for fun and amusement. So without further ado, I give you The Categories:
1. The Wannabe Award- This is for the homeschool parent who wants to be this or that (Classical, Structured, Relaxed, Unschooler, Free Spirit, Sane) but frequently falls short and is not afraid to admit it. "Here's where I want to be, here's where I am, and I'm going to keep on striving."
2. The "Squirrel" Award- "Wait, weren't we supposed to be studying Abraham Lincoln? How'd we end up talking about the chemical properties of Styrofoam?" This is the homeschool blogger who begins her posts on one topic and then takes off in several different directions. ADHD anyone?
3. The Harried Homeschooler Award- "Good thing I don't neglect my kids like I do my blog." or "Who are all these kids and why are they wanting my attention when I'm trying to blog?". This is the blogger who has every intention of blogging regularly, but life just gets in the way sometime. Her family expects regular meals. What's up with that?
4. The Perfect Procrastinator Award- "I really should write that thought provoking piece about world hunger/child discipline/spiritual growth/etc. but I'd rather play on Facebook. Here's a cute puppy photo instead." Some bloggers have turned procrastination into an art form. Quit procrastinating and fill out the nomination form!
5. The Blabber Blog Award- "MOM, you put THAT photo/story on your blog?" This one's for the blogger who isn't afraid to embarrass her family for the sake of blog fodder.
6. Too Busy Blogging Award- The opposite of The Harried Homeschooler, this blogger posts at least once a day, if not more. It's an addiction. Like coffee, only not as tasty.
7. The Meme Forgotten Award- For those who begin a meme, mentally commit to following through weekly, and then promptly forget or manage it sporadically at best.
8. The Not Coming Soon Award- Ever write a post informing your readers of all the great upcoming posts you have in mind? Did these posts actually get written? This is the award for the blogger hanging their head sheepishly as they read this description.
9. The Misfit Among Misfits Award- Have you read through the Homeschool Blog Awards and not found a category that fits you, only to come to the Misfit awards and realize you still don't belong? You may just be unique, qualifying you as the Misfit among Misfits!
10. The Queen (or King) of Misfits Award- This is the blogger who can fit in almost every misfit category listed and will proudly be proclaimed as misfit royalty!
And we have added a BONUS category! With the kind of friends I love to surround myself, these awards would not be complete without The Snarky Homeschooler Award! If you or your friend enjoys the snark and sarcasm, this is the award for you. I know EXACTLY who to nominate for this one!
As many of these are self-deprecating, you may nominate yourself or a friend with a healthy sense of humor. Please choose a maximum of two categories per blog. If there is a larger response than is expected, I reserve the right to narrow it to one of the two categories and to otherwise make any changes deemed necessary during the process. Family friendly blogs please. Oh, and there are no prizes other than a handy dandy blog button to display on your sidebar, pronouncing you a Homeschool Misfit!

Wow you are creative! You totally cannot win #4--you put this together so fast! I am looking forward to this, such a fun idea:)) Thanks
Oh these are good. I can see myself in many of those categories. ;o)
ha ha! too cute, Lori! *Ü* LOVE #9!
Oh, except I can, Heather- as I am procrastinating BY doing this! :-D
Hope you guys all enter yourself or friends with a healthy sense of humor!
I will be entering. But like I just said on my blog post... tomorrow...
Seriously. I have to finish my What's in the Bible post before I go thinking about who to nominate for what. Or even which one to nominate myself for.
I nominated myself for the Wanna Be Award. It totally fits me, as you can see by the "Who is April?" tab at the top of my blog. LOL!!
I have voted in the real HSBA and will have to think about who else to nominate for the Homeschool Misfit Awards.
April E.

These are too cute and oh so creative. I'm a misfit of misfits too (anyone else have that misfit song from the Rudolph cartoon of years ago running thru your head as you read those words?)
Sign me up to ANY...LOL...they fit~and well,,,,LOL!
OOOOO Finally a contest with a catagory for me! Send me off to the land of misfit bloggers... I can think of a few friends who fit into the "misfit" catagory too! What fun it will be to nominate freely!
These are hilarious! Thanks for sharing. I wonder where I fit?
I would say I'm in catagory number three.I have every intention of writing regularly. Just like I have every intention of flossing.
Either that or I want my own category (Maker of Dumplings Most Likely to Start a Cult With)
Ok... So you know I don't homeschool... but you also know that if I did, Id so totally win the Squirrel award... bahahahaha. I would like to nominate you for the Blog Fodder category. :)Blabber blog, is it? :);) I love that, I admire that. I think blog fodder is awesome.
This is TOO funny!!! I can so win the harried homeschooler and procrastinator!!! I have no hope this year of even being nominated for the HSBA awards as all I ever seem to get around to posting is my reviews any more. I am always too busy with school! I have seven in school this year, plus I teach two co-op classes. So....
And I do always have GREAT posts in my head! Never get around to posting them, though. Last year I really was blogging like crazy, but this year I am cutting out just about everything because I am STAYING ON TOP OF SCHOOL!!! What do ya know? LOL
I really do need to post more though...
Finally award categories that don't make me feel inferior! lol I love these and could fit into most of them!!
I just posted about this here: http://crazyhomedaze.blogspot.com/2010/10/awards-that-i-could-actually-win.html
Hope you gets lots of entries!

I think my favorite one is the "Squirrel" award. Simply because I say that to my hubby ALL THE TIME! LOL Him not me. Wait? What was I saying......
You are so funny! I love these awards.
In fact, I've begun to wonder if I'm not addicted to blogging. And by the way, I don't drink coffee...perhaps that's why! So I suppose I'll nominate myself for the Too Busy Blogging Award. ;)

I love this idea. Actually LOL'ed a few times just in reading these descriptions! :)
Too funny!
Now I know that there are the "real" 2010 homeschooling blog awards going on but what are the chances of this wannabe homeschool blogger to actually even be thought of and considered for one of those categories O_o
Now The Homeschooling Misfit awards sounds like something I can strive to achieve with ease lol =)
Too funny! Love it!
I love this. I am such a Wannabe. In fact I just wrote a post on TWTM mind suggesting a sub-board: The Wanna B Well Trained Mind!!
Lori, I LOVE this! So funny. I FINALLY got around to reading this this week--not that I'm harried or anything! ;)
I relate to quite a few of these, but I'll nominate myself for the Harried Homeschooler and the Meme Forgotten awards. You see, I actually have 4 or 5 memes I particpate in often--er, sometimes--er, occasionally. Oh, and one or two of them I've never gotten around to actually posting for, but I've had the ideas in my head, does that count?
