Homeschool Dress Code. Snort.

While procrastinating on Twitter this morning,  I followed a link to The Homeschool Village and their Thursday Link Up.  The question asked on Twitter cracked me up, "So if we knocked on your door this morning, would you answer?".  Definitely not!  Most mornings find us scrambling around, the kids in various state of dress, Mom in search of coffee and wishing there really were house elves to clean while we slept.  I'm hoping I'm not alone, and so am joining in to answer their questions for the day;

What does getting dressed look like in your home? Do you wear mismatched socks and neon lounge pants? What's the funniest thing your kid wears to school?

I have a master bathroom and do not leave my room until I am ready for the day.  I am just weird like that.  Now, ready for the day can mean a variety of things, depending on what the day entails.  Most days I would be in jeans, a top or sweater, and my sweet purple suede boots.  If I have nowhere to go that day (happens rarely), I may choose to declare myself a PJ day and feel fully dressed in Mickey Mouse PJ's and fuzzy socks (I ended up driving to pick my daughter up from work in this outfit last week. Iyiyi.).  Today I am dressed like a friend of mine whom lives in the comfort zone- hair in a pony tail, jeans, a sweatshirt with that great William Butler Yeats quote, and sneakers.  I'm not a sneaker girl.  No matter what the clothing, I MUST have at least minimal makeup on, which probably means I'm vain.  Or just realistic.

With the kids, pretty much anything goes.  They can wear PJs. They can dress down, dress up, wear costumes- it doesn't matter to me!  At this exact moment, my 8 year old is clothed in jeans.  Just jeans.  He should probably find a shirt before Park Day.  Everyone else is currently clothed in respectable outfits but we've seen plenty of craziness.  My 10 year old LOVES mismatched socks and wears them that way on purpose.  My 11 year old is frequently covered in a blanket, wrapped around her so that only her eyes can be seen.  She's less of a morning person than her mom.  Sooner or later she emerges and you know she is finally awake and functioning. These all make me giggle, but the funniest must be when my youngest wore a Darth Vader costume for school several days in a row.  He was borrowing it from a friend and wanted to get the most use out of it.  Made for lots of corny jokes as we worked!

How about you?  Do you have some kind of homeschool "uniform"?  Or are you a free spirit when it comes to dress?   Share in the comments or think about linking up as well!

I am usually in my PJ's until I am forced to get dressed because we have 30 min until we have to leave to go somewhere. My daughter is the same. This morning we had CBS so I am dressed at the moment. :o)

I should get a Darth Vader costume. That would get the math done faster.

Lori, I positively love how such different personalities emerge from the same two people in the same environment. How you made me smile! :) Susan from Homeschool Village

Purple is my favorite color. Unfortunately, I don't own any shoes (of any type) that color!

I'm so glad you linked up today! I enjoyed your post!

I wrote "whom lives". Who does that? And I can't even fix it cause I'm on my iTouch. Please to forgive.
