My friend, Terri, has apparently hosted a homeschool pool party in her back yard every summer for who knows how long. I had heard rumor of these parties, had even been invited a couple of years running, but never made it until this summer. Now that I know what I was missing, you better believe I'll be back!
A couple of week's ago, we all descended on Terri's home and I discovered she has a summer wonderland for a backyard. There's a pool, a volleyball court, a gated child's playground, a swing set, a BBQ, and plenty of tables and chairs. This is not what I was missing though!
What I was missing was the wonderful time of meeting new homeschoolers, catching up with some I hadn't seen in awhile, and staying rowdy with the ones I already know and love; watching my children enjoying time with other homeschool kids, making new friends, and just having a great time in a great space with great people. I'm ready for next year and thankful to Terri for being such a wonderful hostess.
She had a few rules for her party of over 40 homeschooled kids ( ranging in age from toddlers to teens!) and we loved her trademark humor. My son and his friend had to pose for posterity next to the large, handwritten list.
My two oldest had few, if any, homeschooling friends as teenagers. Activities like field trips, classes, and even the state graduation, were unappealing to them. I love seeing my 15 and 13 year old hanging with other homeschooling teens. I want them to have that sense of camaraderie that we can have as homeschool moms. The pool party was just one more opportunity for this and again, I thank my hostess and friend!
What about you? Do you purpose to connect with other homeschoolers? How do you best meet this need? I'd love to hear from you!

4 People Had Something to Say:
This is awesome! We are still 'new' to homeschooling and are struggling with making friends. The co op we joined is a decent size and has a get together at the beg of the year at a local splash fountain. I hope that will be a fresh start for our school year...thanks for sharing this!
Wish we could have gone.
My word, the boys are getting big!
Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
