The purple cover is girly without being super young. We both love the way the butterfly wings wrap around the front and back covers, with the body on the spine. The edges of the pages are gorgeous as well, pink and flowery in a "groovy" kind of way. One of my daughter's first words was, "Funky!" and that was definitely meant as a compliment.
Designed for girls 11 and up, this Bible is just as appealing on the inside. Full of helpful topical indexes, this will be a great place for her to go to first when she has a question. The "Quick Answers" index is easy to use and contains 3-6 verses on several pages of topics.
As a Life Application Bible, it also contains many info boxes throughout the body of the Bible. These include What Now? (help in making good choices in tough situations), I Survived (personal survival stories from teens around the country), Charts and Maps (charts and...er...maps), Is It Ok? (what the Bible says about questions pre-teen and teen girls may have), Amazing Facts, (offbeat and surprising tidbits from Scripture), At A Glance (stories of women and girls in the Bible), I'm Not the Only One (embarrassing moments to help us see the lighter side), and Memory Verses (key Scripture verses).
The center of the Bible contains a glossy insert entitled History Remix. It's a magazine-ish look at life in Bible Times. It's actually super cute. Each book of the Bible also contains an Introduction. These contain information on the Who, Where, When, and Why of the book Some of these also include a timeline.
The New Living Translation is an easy to read version that works well for this age group. Although I prefer a more literal translation for deep study (NASB is my choice), we use various translations in our home and have found the freshness that comes from reading various translations to be good for us.
This Bible would be a great choice for girls in the 11-15 age range. My 17 year old daughter has moved into adult choices in Bibles and studies, but I can see this lasting quite awhile for my 11 year old. She is thrilled and I am thrilled to see so much excitement over reading her Bible! She has already grabbed it back from me and is engrossed in it at this moment. Momma likes that!
The Girls Life Application Study Bible is available for $39.99 through Tyndale (on sale currently for $29.97) or your favorite online or local bookstore.
