It's time to write my review and I can't find either issue of the magazine (I was provided with two free issues for review purposes). With seven kids in the house, I'm assuming one of them has hidden these along with all the rest of their treasures! I would assume it would be one of the younger ones, but you never know- it's an awfully pretty magazine.Nature Friend is a nature magazine (I bet you were surprised by that with a name like Nature Friend!). It's geared toward children and has a decidedly Christian perspective. If you are looking for a beautiful nature magazine from a creationist perspective, this would most certainly fit the bill.
Published monthly, this magazine is more than just a sit and flip through kind of publication. Instead, it's full of activities like crossword puzzles, word searches, "I Spy" type hidden picture puzzles, etc. There is a learn to draw feature and learn by doing science activity, as well as reader submitted drawings and writings.
For those wanting to expand this even more into their "school" schedule, there is an optional study guide available. This includes even more puzzles, research ideas, creative writing, and nature photography. If you tend toward the Charlotte Mason method and nature study, this seems like it would make a wonderful addition to your studies.
Nature Friend magazine is available for $36 a year. The optional study guide is $2 more per issue ($24 a year). If this sounds like something your family would enjoy, use the code Blog93 to save $3 off your order through November 30, 2009.
